LYFA’s Divan 2 is a stunning pendant lamp designed by Simon P. Henningsen in 1962, consisting of overlapping brass trapezoids carefully assembled one by one. Although they definitely make the luminaire look quite impressive, the trapezoids’ function is not only aesthetic: they also filter the light in a way that makes it comfortable and glare-free. As a result, the Divan 2 pendant provides soft, indirect lighting.
The Divan 2 pendant is named after the eponymous restaurant in Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen, for which the lamp was originally designed in the 1960s. The original luminaire was made of stainless steel, whose polished surface reflected Tivoli’s evening lighting to the delight of guest dining at the restaurant, but in 2020, LYFA launched the luminaire in an elegant brass version. The warm shimmer of brass gives the luminaire’s light a cosy, inviting glow and adds a sense of luxury to the design – yet without making it too ostentatious. The inside of the lamp is white to allow the light to be reflected as effectively as possible.
