GUBI’s Pedrera H20 table lamp was designed by Barba Corsini and Joaquim Ruiz Millet. The luminaire loans its shape from Corsini’s Pedrera PD2 floor lamp, originally designed for Antoni Gaudí’s famous La Pedrera building in Barcelona.
In 1955, the loft space of La Pedrera was transformed into apartments, with Spanish architect Barba Corsini in charge of the renovations and decor of the apartments. However, in 1991, the loft was restored according to Gaudí’s original plan, and Corsini’s furniture and lamp designs were mostly thrown away. The Pedrera floor lamp was also almost thrown in the trash but it was ultimately saved by architect and gallerist Joaquim Ruiz Millet.
Ruiz Millet then began collaborating with Corsini, and together they created the H20 table lamp based on the original Pedrera lamp. The inspiration for the base of the lamp came from the vaulted ceilings of the famous house of La Pedrera, while the cylindrical shape and the unique perforated details of the chimneys influenced the form of the lampshade. The simplistic design emphasises the fun details of the lamp, and the perforated shade provides a pleasant ambiance in any room.
